Defining Excellence in Education!
With the goal of engaging North Baton Rouge residents, education leaders and community stakeholders interested in improving outcomes for children attending public schools in North Baton Rouge, the Better Baton Rouge Education Cluster (BBREC) hosted four public events over the course of four months. The purpose of these engagements was to raise awareness of and demand for excellent schools in North Baton Rouge through informed consensus around a collective definition of “excellence.”
A total of approximately 500 community members participated in the conversations, galvanizing around the theme, “Our Schools…Our Excellence!” This theme underscores a fundamental belief in the ultimate responsibility for the quality of schools being deeply rooted in the communities they serve.
In an effort to advance the understanding and acceptance of this responsibility, the BBREC facilitated vigorous dialogue on the general best-practices of “excellent” schools.
The Our Schools…Our Excellence! Community Compact proposes four critical mandates and supporting tenets as the beginning of a formal commitment by the participants who helped create them to embrace and advance their actualization.
- Achieve Student Success
- Recruit, Reward & Empower Proven Talent
- Involve Parents
- Support Students
This compact also serves as a basis for seeking the endorsement of its mandates through specific actions by external partners and fellow collaborators.
