As we continue our journey through Black Philanthropy Month, we are reminded of the persistent wealth gap that disproportionately impacts Black-led organizations and the communities they serve. Despite the tremendous generosity and leadership within the Black community, systemic barriers have created significant disparities in access to funding and resources.

At MetroMorphosis, we are committed to addressing these inequities head-on. We believe that true equity goes beyond words—it requires action, investment, and a deep understanding of the challenges that marginalized communities face. That’s why we have launched the Black Philanthropy Fund, an effort dedicated to bridging economic gaps in urban communities by providing access to crucial funding for those leading transformative work.

The Wealth Gap: A Barrier to Progress

The wealth gap in America poses a significant obstacle to the advancement of Black-led organizations. A study by Echoing Green and The Bridgespan Group found that these organizations receive 76% less unrestricted funding than their White-led counterparts (Dorsey, Bradford, & Perry, 2020). This stark disparity limits their capacity to sustain and expand initiatives crucial for community development.

Further highlighting this inequity, the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy reports that only 1.8% of philanthropic dollars are awarded to Black-led organizations (NCRP, 2019). This underfunding persists despite the pivotal role these organizations play in addressing systemic injustices. Additionally, data from the Federal Reserve’s 2019 Survey of Consumer Finances reveals that the median wealth of White families stands at $188,200, nearly eight times that of Black families, which is $24,100 (Bhutta et al., 2020). Such economic disparities not only affect individual households but also the broader capacity of communities to support local initiatives.

MetroMorphosis: Bridging the Gap

In alignment with our mission to support and uplift our community, we are proud to introduce the Black Philanthropy FundThis fund provides a lifeline to Black-led organizations, giving them the financial support they need to create impactful change  in education, health, economic development, and community revitalization.

This is more than just an opportunity to give; it’s a call to action for every one of us to be part of something bigger. By contributing to the Black Philanthropy Fund, you are not just making a donation—you are participating in a movement that seeks to correct historical injustices and become a catalyst for growth, equity, and sustainability in communities that have been overlooked and underfunded for far too long.

The need is urgent. The time is now. Your contribution is not just a gift—it’s an investment in a more just and equitable world.
