The Recap: Mentoring In Real Life Awards

MetroMorphosis2019, Uncategorized

The Mentoring in Real Life Awards, an event organized by the multi-organization collective, MentoringBR, took place Wednesday, January 24th at Oak Lodge. The awards were meant to honor mentors making a difference in the lives of Baton Rouge youth. The event’s keynote speaker Naquita Wilson, a former LSU and NBA basketball player, spoke about attributing his success as an athlete to the time and encouragement poured into him by mentors throughout his childhood. Wilson emphasized the importance of being a mentor, having someone to mentor and the value of academics being equally as important as that of athletics. MetroMorphosis Chief Executive Catalyst, Raymond Jetson, in closing remarks shared a quote from a former professor whose love of teaching stemmed from his belief that his profession “allowed him to touch eternity”, further solidifying the notion that passing on mentorship to others allows mentors the opportunity to leave lasting impressions.
