At the beginning of February, we kicked off our annual Black Futures Month celebration. Each year, we opt to view our Black history through the lens of Sankofa.
Sankofa means to “make benevolent use of the past to make progress in the future.” In other words, learning from the past and leveraging its teachings in the present to build a better future.
This Black Futures Month, we tapped 19 change agents to provide their perspective on critical areas impacting life in Baton Rouge. And because MetroMorphosis is committed to mobilizing and equipping citizens to address challenges plaguing our communities, their writings also include recommendations for how we create lasting change.
These writings make up the first issue of our latest publication: Building a Better Baton Rouge: Critical Areas Series.
This dynamic and enlivening piece covers 10 crucial areas:
- Place
- Education
- Business Development
- Health & Wellness
- Public Safety
- Arts & Culture
- Innovation & Technology
- Leadership
- Mentoring
- Technology
We hope you will take a moment to download a copy, read it throughout the remainder of this Black Futures month, and most importantly, share it with your network.
